Commendation for Housing

DESCRIPTION
The brief: fluid, connected, timeless, simple, open, practical, tranquil, transparent. The experiences: warmth, breeze, smells, tastes, water, quiet, action, seclusion.

JURY VERDICT
On a steep site on the Barrenjoey Peninsula, the impressive and welcoming Reeves House takes in splendid views of Pittwater West and will nestle in resurrected forest as it develops. This present and future environment generated the form of the house, the twisted parasol of its roof, the elevated north-facing bathroom and bedroom, the continuous kitchen and living areas below, and the spacious decks. The orientation and the roof form admit winter sun, and provide summer shade. Concrete block blade walls at the back hold the main stair circulation beneath a light-emitting polycarbonate roof. The front of the house is a lightly framed, intelligently detailed, extensively glazed pavilion. Below are two other levels, a more enclosed bedroom area with west-facing balcony above garaging. It is a house of rational program yet poetic order.
